70 Years of Nissan Electric Vehicles Culminates in the Nissan BladeGlider Sports Car Taking the Stage at 2017 Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK

It might surprise you to learn that Nissan has been fielding electric vehicles (EVs) since 1947! That's a full 70 years ago! The first electric Nissan model was called the Tama, and 70 years on Nissan is still on the cutting-edge of EV design, leading the charge with the world's first mass-market 100% electric car, the revolutionary Nissan LEAF, the second generation of which is slated to premiere early this September!

So, What IS the Nissan BladeGlider Anyway?

Though it's not available as a production model, the Nissan BladeGlider marks an important step toward Nissan electrification. The BladeGlider is an all-electric three-seater sports car prototype. This year, it got to test its mettle on the world renowned Hillclimb course and enjoy a test session on the historic Goodwood Motor Circuit at the 2017 Goodwood Festival of Speed. This isn't the first time we've seen the BladeGlider in public, but it is its first few rings around the Goodwood Motor Circuit, so perhaps we're getting closer to seeing something production-ready soon! Of course, that's only speculation

"Driving the BladeGlider round the famous Goodwood Motor Circuit has been a fantastic experience," said [NISMO athlete Lucas] Ordóñez. "It's such an exciting car to drive, with so much torque from the moment you start. It's great fun on a fast track like this and so quick through the corners." —from an August 4, 0217 Nissan Press Release

With 70 years of EV history beneath its belt, the new generation of Nissan LEAF models promises to be astounding. Curious about what other EV landmarks Nissan has given the world?
